Also known as Thorny seahorse. Diet: small benthic and/or planktonic crustaceans such as harpacticoid and cyclopoid copepods, gammarid shrimps, and mysids
Max. Size: 17 cm
Fun Fact: All seahorse species have vital parental care, and many species studied to date have high site fidelity. Seahorses including H. histrix are ovoviviparous and the males give birth to live young.
